Om het belang van dit paar te begrijpen, is het nuttig om naar de geschiedenis van beide valuta&#8217;s te kijken.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-info\">\n<li>\n<h3>Een korte geschiedenis van het Britse pond<\/h3>\n<p>Het Britse pond behoort tot de oudste nog gebruikte valuta&#8217;s ter wereld. Na de unie van Engeland en Schotland in 1707 werd sterling de gemeenschappelijke munt van Groot-Brittanni\u00eb, de voorloper van <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rationalfx.com\/forex-brokers\/uk\/\">het Verenigd Koninkrijk<\/a>. Vroege bankbiljetten van de Bank of England werden met de hand geschreven; later werden gestandaardiseerde gedrukte biljetten ingevoerd. De invloed van het pond strekte zich uit tot Britse koloni\u00ebn, waaronder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rationalfx.com\/forex-brokers\/australia\/\">Australi\u00eb<\/a>, Nieuw-Zeeland en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rationalfx.com\/forex-brokers\/canada\/\">Canada<\/a>. Voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog was het pond gekoppeld aan de goudstandaard.<\/p>\n<p>Gedurende zijn geschiedenis heeft het pond belangrijke veranderingen ondergaan. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog verliet het VK de goudstandaard. Deze werd in 1925 hersteld, maar in 1931 opnieuw verlaten. In 1971 werd het pond gedecimaliseerd en in 1972 ging sterling vrij zweven, waardoor de wisselkoers hoofdzakelijk door vraag en aanbod werd bepaald. Ondanks de invoering van de euro in 1999 behield het VK het pond als offici\u00eble munteenheid.<\/p>\n<p>De waarde van het pond is be\u00efnvloed door verschillende gebeurtenissen, waaronder het Brexit-referendum in 2016, waarna de munt aanzienlijk in waarde daalde. Sindsdien reageert het pond onder meer op handelsbesprekingen, monetair beleid en economische onzekerheid.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Een korte geschiedenis van de euro<\/h3>\n<p>De euro heeft een relatief korte geschiedenis. De munt werd in 1999 ingevoerd als girale valuta van de eurozone; euromunten en -bankbiljetten volgden in 2002. Voorstellen voor een gemeenschappelijke Europese munt waren echter al sinds de jaren zestig onderwerp van discussie. De overgang van nationale valuta naar de euro verliep relatief soepel en de munt steeg in waarde tot de financi\u00eble crisis van 2007-2009.<\/p>\n<p>De waarde van de euro werd be\u00efnvloed door de recessie en het <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/home\/html\/index.en.html\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">quantitative-easingprogramma van de Europese Centrale Bank (ECB)<\/a> dat in 2015 begon.
