The pound continued to strengthen on Tuesday and extended its biggest winning streak in a year and a half. Sterling rose for a sixth day running, hitting its longest stretch of consecutive gains since April 2018 and rounding out the currency’s best quarter since 2009.
Sterling outperformed major currency pairs as it was handed an extra boost by comments made by EU Commissioner Phil Hogan. Hogan was quoted saying the UK would ditch its opposition to extending the Brexit transition period.
